Always Bring Your Tambourine: Rebel Of The Sea

By Lauren Ross

“Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine and led all the women as they played their tambourines and danced. And Miriam sang this song: “Sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; he has hurled both horse and rider into the sea.” Exodus 15:20-21

As we begin a new week I have been meditating on a concept worth sharing. I hope this will enlighten your perspective on whatever juncture you may be experiencing.

There is the age old debate of what came first, the chicken or the egg. I am whole heartedly convinced it was both at the same time.

In Exodus after God rescued the Israelites from Egypt, and parted the Red Sea, Miriam pulled out a tambourine along with the other women. Now I have heard many discussions on how amazing her faith to have packed the tambourines for celebrating before the victory. However, God had already delivered victory by removing them from Egypt. Perhaps Miriam was not packing the tambourines for another victory but was preparing to honor and celebrate the first triumph. As humans we have the wonderful ability to pre-plan but with that ability we sometimes focus too much on what next and miss the current celebration. As we step into a new week let us try to focus on celebrating what has been achieved regardless of how big or small with full confidence that more victories are on the horizon. And in good fashion with pre-planning, keep a tambourine in your back pocket at all times.
